Southern Heritage Classic set to takeover Memphis

901 are you ready? Memphis, are you ready for the football game, the bands, the pageantry and the fun? 2013 marks the 24th anniversary of the Southern Heritage Classic, the annual event that pits two of the most storied programs in HBCU football, Tennessee State University vs Jackson State University, against each other in what is one of the largest “classic” events at the Liberty Memorial Stadium! Don’t get it twisted, football isn’t the only reason fans show up as both the Southern Heritage Classic halftime and “5th quarter” feature two of the top bands in the country, TSU’s “Aristocrat of Bands” vs JSU’s “Sonic Boom of the South”, locked in a battle for musical supremacy and bragging rights just as fierce as the football being played!
Every year during the second weekend in September, thousands of students, alumni and fans from all over flock to Memphis for the fun filled activities of the Southern Heritage Classic including the Classic Parade, High School Battle of the Bands, Greek Showdown and more! They come for the festive tailgating atmosphere, they come for the parties, the come for the heated rivalry, the come for the camaraderie, but mostly they come for the love of their school!
2013 marks the 20th year in a row ( and 22nd overall) that TSU and JSU will square off in this “classic”which was started in 1990 by entrepreneur Fred Jones. TSU is 12-11 all time in the event while JSU is 9-12. The all time series between the two schools is 25-20-2 in favor of TSU. Last year (2012), TSU won the game 38-12
